Helping Teens Prepare for Workforce

Sumitomo Corporation of Americas (SCOA) partnered with an organization known as PENCIL as part of the region’s 100SEED program to help students prepare their resumes and get ready for job interviews.

Career Support for Students Who will Drive the Future

PENCIL has played a critical role in bringing together business professionals, educations and students to open eyes, open minds and open doors. Each summer, the PENCIL Internship Program prepares hundreds of students for their future through career readiness training and paid summer internships.
For the Online Mock Interview and Resume Review Session on March 15th, SCOA employees provided students with one-on-one feedback to update and strengthen their resume, as well as allow a group of relatively inexperienced students to practice and gain confidence in their interviewing abilities before entering the workforce. They also answered questions from the students, gave advice, and listened to concerns about new situations involving their future employment opportunities.

Interaction with Employees Make students Feel Encouraged

The students truly benefited from this opportunity to connect and learn from professionals.
“They have shared how much they enjoyed meeting the Sumitomo team members and that they feel more confident as they begin their internship search. It means a great deal to our team at Pencil that you would dedicate a few hours on a busy workday to working with our students,” said Kajte King, PENCIL Program Coordinator.

As a result of our employees' sincere dedication, all 11 students that were part of this program were accepted into internships during the summer of 2022.
