Sumitomo Corporation of the Philippines (SCOP) arranged activities by cooperating with NPO to help children receive a quality education.
Padayon, which means do something unceasingly, started in 2019 to address sustainable education. We aim to help children receive a quality education by cooperating NPO which share the same advocacies and visions to have a better and wider impact.
On January 25, 2020, SCOP went to Labney, Tarlac to conduct our annual corporate social responsibility activities. We collaborated with NPO called Black Pencil Project, whose main goal is to reach out to every Filipino child by providing free school supplies and inspire them to have big dreams and make their imaginations come to life. SCOP chose Labney Elementary School based from the pool of areas already supported by our partner, Black Pencil Project. The area is poor, secluded and with limited resources, hence the support for students is also very limited.
We distributed school supplies to 224 children from kindergarten to grade six and teacher’s kits to the 10 teachers assigned to that school. We also donated paints to one of the school buildings. In addition, we also held a food program for the children and the school community.
Overall, it was a remarkable experience that all participants enjoyed.
At the end of the activity, Labney Elementary School expressed its gratitude for receiving the school kits necessary to help each child to have a better education.
A Certificate of Appreciation was given to SCOP for our thoughtful action. Also, a delicious lunch of lechon was provided to the SCOP members.
Aside from the fun experience we had in this CSR activity, all members were able to reflect on their lives while at it. Experiencing this firsthand gave us fresh perspectives and improved the members teamwork!
