Collaborating with University, SC Indonesia gave a webinar for the students with the theme of “Industry Revolution 4.0”, especially focusing on Logistics.
Industry Revolution 4.0 is a comprehensive transformation of the whole sphere of industrial production through the merging of digital technology and the Internet with conventional industry (Merkel, A. (2014). Speech by Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel to the OECD Conference).
We aware that Indonesian students are still wondering what will be the impact of it while they are working in the company. PT Sumitomo Indonesia already implement technology in Industry 4.0 such as RPA (Robotic Process Automation) to provide exchange rate report based on weekly tax rates which is issued by Ministry of Finance, IoT, AI through CCTV (Closed-Circuit Television) – Customs Indonesia is monitoring the incoming and outgoing inventory through CCTV, WMS (Warehouse Management System)/IT Inventory (tracking and tracing of inventory in real-time), Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) through e-seal to monitoring the transporter location, etc. So we decided to conduct a webinar providing a brief look about what would it be like in the real world, by focusing in logistic activities. In this webinar, we collaborate with ITL Trisakti University, a well-known Logistic and Transportation Institute University which is located in Jakarta, with key target of participant is the Student of the university but also open for other party to join, such as alumni and lecturers of the University.
“Industry Revolution 4.0: Implication for Management and Logistic Services” is the webinar’s title. The speakers are Surya Rahman, Director and also General Manager of Logistic Department, and Perhiasenta Ginting from Logistic Department. Also there was one speaker from the university, Ms. Siska Silalahi who is a Lecturer of ITL Trisakti University. Total attendees were 462 participants and in the Q&A session, the participants’ feedback and queries represents their high interest and concerns about this topic.
From students’ various queries, we found that there are deep concerns about whether there will be sufficient job availability which still requires human’s involvement in the future, and also about our readiness in facing the industry revolution.
During the session, we provide explanation that industry revolution is something we inevitably have to face, despite our readiness. We also emphasize that there are human aspects that still cannot be easily replaced, including senses and judgements. However we need to keep up with current updates in information and technology to cope with changing situation. Further, it is very important to have good attitude beside our good capability. This is also one point that is required in current working environment. What we need to explore is our leadership skills, which is combined with our continuous willingness to improve, that made us up to be a highly-developed human being who can contribute even more to the communities and global world.
From this webinar, we learn that we have our resource employees who own skills and experiences that could be shared to society, or, in a more specific target, to academy environment. This is also good opportunity for us to introduce about Sumitomo Corporation Group. We introduce our history, our business and how we conduct our business as well as providing contribution to our society within educational programs.
